Days 1,2,&3 of the "12 days of Halloween" at Simply Betty Stamps

Due to all of my commitments,
"The 12 Days of Halloween" at Simply Betty Stamps
will be done in segments. Here is day 1, 2 and 3

Day 1- "An Owl in an Oak Tree"...I actually have a flock of owls, but I highlighted ONE with the moon.
the over-all picture is from the Wise Owl Collage sheet from ARTchix STUDIOS. The circle stamp is from STAMPIN' UP, and the gravestones Stamp is from ALPHA STAMPS. I used Staz-on ink, as this paper is glossy. I plan to make all of the "days" 4 X 4's and then use my BIND-IT-ALL to make a little book. I finished it off with 5 holes, with eyelets and yarns. (I used my CROP-O-DILE) The backs are all blank for now, but I will be doing something with them.
Day 2-"2 Trick or Treaters", all 3 stamps are by STAMPIN' UP, the spider web paper is by HOT OFF THE PRESS (thanks to a friend) I used Crystal Effects by STAMPIN' UP on the spider, BicMark Its! for coloring and Black sequences down the side from MAKING MEMORIES.
Day 3- "3 Black Cats"  The large Cat is by STAMPIN' UP, the other 2 are $1 stamps from MICHAEL'S, Colored with BIC Mark Its!, the Background paper (foiled) from MY MINDS EYE, I used my CROP-O-DILE to make one hole, 1 eyelet, and 3 fibers. I showed 2 images so you can see the foil.

Thanks for visiting, I hope you like my interpretation of the "12 days of Halloween"
Please remember Betty's son when visiting all the participants, and most of use have the "Zander donation button" on our sidebars. Mine is up at the top!

DAY 19- 31 Days of Halloween, Countdown to halloween, Real witches of Halloween

Scroll down for my ALL HALLOWS GRIM POSTS(3)

Welcome to Day 19 of the 31 DAYS OF HALLOWEEN, as well as day 19 of the COUNTDOWN TO HALLOWEEN, and Day 19 of THE REAL WITCHES OF HALLOWEEN.

Today's Halloween funny:

For my creation today I have the 2nd set of my Haunted Houses. The idea behind this project was when you got the swap back you could make a banner out of all the houses. After Halloween, I share the ones I got back. All are awesome, but most were done more like a house shaped postcard or ATC, not actually like a house but the ones that were are superb! ok onto mine:
Again, I want to apologize for the glare, in some of these it is bad.
The "back door" 2nd story left window, and the long third story window are actually cut out.
above left--Owl charm, attic windows, spider and web in third floor window, web definition, small jack-o-lantern, glary skull in the second story window , and Masonite tombstone(has rock candy crackle paint on it) are all ARTchix STUDIOS. The Dracula Image, and the witch on the moon are from ALPHA STAMPS. Again I used Old Paper crackle paint by RANGER, and sharpies for accents, and the stamped web from STAMPIN' UP.
Above center--The owl charm, the lady gazing up at the moon, in the old building, the specter definition and the tiny wording, the glary cemetery angel head in the 2nd story window, and the witch in the back door are from ARTchix, The poison is from the RAKed collage sheet. The Cat image is from ALPHA STAMPS. I made the roof again with the crumpled tissue paper pieces and MOD PODGE, there is Rock Candy Crackle paint by RANGER on the woman gazing up at the moon image and the witch in the back door. The coffin stamp is by BOMBSHELL STAMPS, the dead necessities set.
above right--all images except for the "wording" is ARTchix, as well as the owl charm, and the Masonite door. The Raven stamp and the wording is from ALPHA STAMPS
Above left--owl charm and all images and wording are from ARTchix STUDIOS. I used Fired Brick crackle paint, sharpies and the web stamp from STAMPIN' UP. (image in the back door is a skeleton, as well as the large glary image)Fired Brick crackle paint accents this house.
Above center--the gold Key hole, jack-o-lantern,  glary witch in 2nd story window(has rock candy crackle paint on it), the bat (glary), wording, and skeleton in the back door are all ARTchix, the Ouija Board is from DEZINAWORLD. The coffin stamp is again, from Bombshell. This house has the tissue papered roof.
Above right-- Creepy doll head in 2nd story window, the siamese twin- bat girls(has rock candy crackle paint on it), antelope skull in back door and the Masonite door are all from ARTchix. "poison", wording, and black cat, and raven stamp are from ALPHA STAMPS,  the small image of the old witch tea party is from that RAKed collage sheet. I used Fired brick crackle paint on the roof and the door.
last house of the 7-- The "poison" and raven stamp are by ALPHA STAMPS. The creepy weeds, tombstone , spider in web, web definition, "boo", skeleton in back door, siamese twin-bat girls, and glary image (can't remember what it is ) are all from ARTchix STUDIOS. I used Rock Candy Crackle Paint by RANGER on the tombstone and the skeleton in the backdoor, and Old Paper crackle paint on the roof.

DAY 18- 31 Days of Halloween, Countdown to halloween, Real witches of Halloween

Scroll down for my ALL HALLOWS GRIM POSTS(3)

Welcome to Day 18 of the 31 DAYS OF HALLOWEEN, as well as day 18 of the COUNTDOWN TO HALLOWEEN, and Day 18 of THE REAL WITCHES OF HALLOWEEN.

from now til the end of the month I'll be sharing images some funny, some otherwise. (my countdown)
Are you having fun???!!!! I hope so :)

Todays artistic creation is a set of my haunted houses for a swap on one of my Yahoo groups. we were to start with a 4 x 6 piece of chipboard and make 13 houses (14 if we wanted to give one to the owner of the shop, that the group is for) 6 in one style and 7 in the other...I did 14 so 7 of each (actually 16 as I made 2 for myself...not photographed yet)...I knew I was going to use them as part of my 31 days so I made sure I stamped one image on each, otherwise these are mixed-media/collage.

so here are the first group of 7- the balcony, center window, and right-side basement window are actually cut out:

First, the one on the left above is the one I made for the shop owner, the shop--ARTchix Studios, owner-Helga. We had to use at least one of her collage images, and one art bit. from left to right:

The "boo" on the balcony, skull in the window, ghost girl outside, and creepy owl eyes in the basement window are all from ARTchix STUDIOS. The art bit is the Masonite window. The yellow is card stock I coated with 3 coats of Glow-in-the-dark MOD PODGE. The wording is from an ALPHA STAMPS collage sheet. The background paper is photographed weathered wood, I do not remember the brand. Then I used Fired Brick Crackle Paint by RANGER, and a Black and Silver SHARPIE. The stamp-Small Coffin from Dead Necessities by BOMBSHELL STAMPS.
next- same design, wood paper, Old Paper Crackle paint by RANGER, the black and silver SHARPIES again. and i used dark leopard print tissue paper crumpled up in little balls and MOD PODGE for a rough roof. The Bat skeleton in the window, jack-o-lantern by porch, Creepy woman looking up at the moon in the old house outside, and the eyes in the basement window are all from ARTchix STUDIOS, as well as the Masonite window. The small girl witches on the balcony is from another collage sheet that I rec'd as a RAK. The Raven Stamp is from ALPHA STAMPS.
third-  wood paper, old paper crackle paint, all images, and Masonite window all from ARTchix STUDIOS, wording from Collage sheet from ALPHA STAMPS. Web stamp from Web Wishes by STAMPIN' UP
on the left-  wood paper, old paper crackle paint, Witch in window, jack-o-lantern, extra vines that I cut off the women image,  "haunt", "enchanted" and Masonite window all from ARTchix STUDIOS. Ouija Board image from DEZINAWORLD, and black cat is from ALPHA STAMPS, There is Rock Candy Crackle paint by RANGER over the witch in the window. the sharpies, glow-in-the-dark MP, and the web stamp by STAMPIN' UP.
on the right-  paper is a tan with  grassy jungle-looking irregular and random squares all over it, Fired brick crackle paint, sharpies. Jester on Balcony, witch in window, "Spooky" and gold keyhole from ARTchix STUDIOS, creepy doll in window from that RAK sheet, black cat and wording by ALPHA STAMPS, as well as the Raven stamp.
on the left- please forgive the glare, I was rushing for the photos as to get them in the mail. Nosterfu image (at the top) from ARTFUL ILLUSIONS, creepy doll on balcony from RAK sheet, the glary image in the window is a skull by ARTchix STUDIOS, as well as the tiny "Hocus Pocus", tiny jack-o-lantern by porch, and the "Rise and walk with me" by Nos. The Masonite door is also ARTchix STUDIOS, the monster eyes in the basement are from an old Frankenstein image off the same collage sheet as Nos by ARTFUL ILLUSION. Again web stamp by STAMPIN' UP. The creepy doll and Nos are both covered in Rock candy crackle paint by RANGER. (it is almost empty I am so sad)
on the right-   Back to the wood paper, the dark leopard print tissue paper, crumpled-mod podged roof, web stamp and sharpies. The moon, cemetery angel head, creepy weeds, as well as the Masonite window are all from ARTchix STUDIOS. The Little witch is from ARTFUL ILLUSIONS. I do not remember where I got the one eye image from in the basement window. Reminder all the yellow windows etc are coated in Glow-in-the-Dark MOD PODGE.

Tomorrow you'll see the other 7, which the house style is a bit different

This was a fun yet stressful project, kind of like doing the 31 days, LOL!

Tuesday treats, tips and Tales

Hello, here I am late on Tuesday, but at least I am here :)

First The treat(s) some for your eyes, and then a freebie image for you, for up coming Halloween.

These 2 arches are for a swap on ALTERED PAGES Yahoo group. ALTERED PAGES is listed in "my favorite places to empty my wallet" below on my sidebar. They sell Collage Sheets, Rubber stamps and other doo-dads. We needed to use an image off the "Beauty in Purple" Collage Sheet.
The template for this  Gothic Arch was supplied by a member of the group, it is higher and wider  then the Gothic Arches I usually make, but since I may make them into a book, I thought it be best to use the template that hopefully the other members decided to use.

Above: "Divine Pageantry" (I do not know why it scanned crooked, ugh)
Ok, I used the same papers on both arches are three are mulberry papers--red, bright pink(less fibrous than the red) and royal blue with gold paint streaked on it in both directions. All from my stash.

On this arch, I used an ATC background from DEZINAWORLD (they are one my sidebar-I Love June's stuff) it is from a Halloween ATC sheet. I used Diamond glaze by JUDIKINS over the Celtic Cross on it. I cut it off the sheet I printed on White card stock with regular paper snips, but I did it in a slightly wavy fashion.
I chose the "Communion Gal" from the "Beauty in Purple" sheet, basically some of her flowers were a bit purplish. I chose to decorate all her flowers with FLOWER SOFT, and then I used Stickles by RANGER on her veil. The German Scrap around the edge is Royal Purple (not blue as it looks in the scan) by COLLAGE STUFF (also under "My fav places to empty my wallet") The word REJOICE is from another collage sheet by ALTERED PAGES, printed on parchment paper, but I ran my Cat eye Fluid chalk ink in Wisteria by COLORBOK over it.

Below: "Spirit of Love" (this one scanned straight-yea!)
I chose the "lying-down beauty" from the "Beauty in Purple" collage sheet, and she is definitely tinted purple. All the little printed out words are also from an ALTERED PAGES collage sheet. The Ouija Board tinted slightly purple is off a Halloween Collage Sheet from DEZINAWORLD.
I Used purple micro beads, and purple/lavendar mixture of other beads underneath the micro beads. I used a FABER-CASTELL Micro point marker, and the purple BIC Mark it. The German Scrap wing is from ARTCHIX STUDIOS (also in my fav spendy spots) It is silver, I colored it with the purple BIC Mark It, and then sanded it slightly

The phrases on it say:
"Cherish your soul, your memories, your family"
"Time to explore a Mystere journey"
"Imagine love after life after love"

and for another swap:

The theme is "In the Garden"  This is my take on that theme. All 3 horizontal ATCs use 7 Gypies' paper, the vertical ATC uses a random piece of garden type paper I add, it shows upward growing branches with faint script writing as a background. All the "Flower girls" are from a collage sheet by ARTCHIX STUDIOS, all the cut out phrases, words and definition are also from a collage sheet by ARTCHIX STUDIOS. The Red and Copper German scrap is from COLLAGE STUFF and the black German Scrap is from ALPHA STAMPS (also in my fav spendy list) The flourish stamp is by STAMPIN' UP and the embossing powder is Pirate Gold by STAMPENDOUS.  I am not sure which one I am going to keep for myself.

Here is a FREE treat for you:

This image was taken in a very old cemetery on Tilghman Island in Maryland slightly off-shore from St. Michael's.
We thought these initials were apropos, the inscription below the initials was worn smooth, we couldn't make anything out. It is a very small marker, approx. 14-15" across, and I would say about 12-13" above the ground. We think perhaps it is a grave of an infant or child, as there were MANY of them in this cemetery. {please credit me with the photo if you use it in your art. (©Susan Guzy 10-28-2008)}

Celebrating FAIRY DAY

Welcome to my post Honoring FAIRY DAY!!
(click for all the info)

I am sharing a Celtic tale about a fairy!

Connla and the Fairy Maiden (from Apples for the Teacher.com)
Connla of the Fiery Hair was son of Conn of the Hundred Fights. One day as he stood by the side of his father on the height of Usna, he saw a maiden clad in strange attire coming towards him.
"Whence comest thou, maiden?" said Connla.
"I come from the Plains of the Ever Living," she said, "there where there is neither death nor sin. There we keep holiday alway, nor need we help from any in our joy. And in all our pleasure we have no strife. And because we have our homes in the round green hills, men call us the Hill Folk."
The king and all with him wondered much to hear a voice when they saw no one. For save Connla alone, none saw the Fairy Maiden.

"To whom art thou talking, my son?" said Conn the king.
Then the maiden answered, "Connla speaks to a young, fair maid, whom neither death nor old age awaits. I love Connla, and now I call him away to the Plain of Pleasure, Moy Mell, where Boadag is king for aye, nor has there been complaint or sorrow in that land since he has held the kingship. Oh, come with me, Connla of the Fiery Hair, ruddy as the dawn with thy tawny skin. A fairy crown awaits thee to grace thy comely face and royal form. Come, and never shall thy comeliness fade, nor thy youth, till the last awful day of judgment."
The king in fear at what the maiden said, which he heard though he could not see her, called aloud to his Druid, Coran by name.
"Oh, Coran of the many spells," he said, "and of the cunning magic, I call upon thy aid. A task is upon me too great for all my skill and wit, greater than any laid upon me since I seized the kingship. A maiden unseen has met us, and by her power would take from me my dear, my comely son. If thou help not, he will be taken from thy king by woman's wiles and witchery."
Then Coran the Druid stood forth and chanted his spells towards the spot where the maiden's voice had been heard. And none heard her voice again, nor could Connla see her longer. Only as she vanished before the Druid's mighty spell, she threw an apple to Connla.

For a whole month from that day Connla would take nothing, either to eat or to drink, save only from that apple. But as he ate it grew again and always kept whole. And all the while there grew within him a mighty yearning and longing after the maiden he had seen.

But when the last day of the month of waiting came, Connla stood by the side of the king his father on the Plain of Arcomin, and again he saw the maiden come towards him, and again she spoke to him.
"'Tis a glorious place, forsooth, that Connla holds among short-lived mortals awaiting the day of death. But now the folk of life, the ever-living ones, beg and bid thee come to Moy Mell, the Plain of Pleasure, for they have learnt to know thee, seeing thee in thy home among thy dear ones."

When Conn the king heard the maiden's voice he called to his men aloud and said:
"Summon swift my Druid Coran, for I see she has again this day the power of speech."
Then the maiden said: "Oh, mighty Conn, fighter of a hundred fights, the Druid's power is little loved; it has little honour in the mighty land, peopled with so many of the upright. When the Law will come, it will do away with the Druid's magic spells that come from the lips of the false black demon."
Then Conn the king observed that since the maiden came, Connla his son spoke to none that spake to him. So Conn of the hundred fights said to him, "Is it to thy mind what the woman says, my son?"
"'Tis hard upon me," then said Connla; "I love my own folk above all things; but yet, but yet a longing seizes me for the maiden."
When the maiden heard this, she answered and said "The ocean is not so strong as the waves of thy longing. Come with me in my curragh, the gleaming, straight-gliding crystal canoe. Soon we can reach Boadag's realm. I see the bright sun sink, yet far as it is, we can reach it before dark. There is, too, another land worthy of thy journey, a land joyous to all that seek it. Only wives and maidens dwell there. If thou wilt, we can seek it and live there alone together in joy."

When the maiden ceased to speak, Connla of the Fiery Hair rushed away from them and sprang into the curragh, the gleaming, straight-gliding crystal canoe. And then they all, king and court, saw it glide away over the bright sea towards the setting sun. Away and away, till eye could see it no longer, and Connla and the Fairy Maiden went their way on the sea, and were no more seen, nor did any know where they came.
