A couple of Card challenges...
I have been very unmotivated this past week or so, and not feeling great as the maple trees are starting to envelope us in their yellow pollen. But because I consider it a "job" something I was called to do...I try to make a few cards every week for OWH. To that end, I always try to include a challenge or 2.
This Card is for MOJO MONDAYS sketch challenge (sidebar) and SIR STAMPALOT theme "fantasy"(on my blog list) The Cheshire Cat image is a digi stamp by Mo Manning. I just love her art! :) I am not a big "Alice in Wonderland" fan (I know that puts me in the minority) But I do like the Cheshire cat and the Hookah smoking Caterpillar. BTW, does anyone know if the caterpillar has a name?
I also made one card from the Stars and Stamps sketch # 13, and mid week challenge (use hardware)
Card stock-Unknown
Printed paper- Unknown
Punches- CM squares
German Scrap- Collage stuff
Stamps- Stampin' Up
Flower- K & co.
Hardware is actually the top of an old cufflink!
Misc.- Button

(long post) Trying to Vent, WITHOUT revealing too much...
I have not been in a good place, something that should be making me happy is NOT. I think I mentioned my son was coming up from NC. (see a pic of him down the bottom) I love my son dearly, and I have missed him greatly. Well...there are some issues. let me start from the beginning. Thomas has severe ODD and ADHD. My OB saw this immediately as he was still moving while in the birth canal (evidently NOT normal). We knew as an infant. he rolled over the day we came home from the hospital...it was not a fluke, he continued to do it. He walking holding onto the furniture at 6 months, let go at 9 months, climbed the stairs at 11 months, climbed up a tree at 13 months (I kid you not) he was about 6 feet off the ground sitting on the first limb crotch.
Needless to say we had our hands full with him meds started at age 3 when he was "officially" DXed with ADHD...we were told by several professionals that he was "SOOO ADHD, all the books could have been written about him". The year he was 3, we went through 8 babysitters (and we only needed a sitter for 2.5 hours a day) granted there was also my older daughter who was 7.5 at the time (but a well behaved child) and my youngest daughter age 2 also ADHD...but her's manifested mostly in her mouth and hands. Thomas' whole body was always moving. he couldn't sit still for a meal. No issues with school until 5th grade, when he started bucking all the rules. Around that same time maybe a year later an incident happened with him and his older sister, and I took him to the hospital, as I feared for his and others safety. Without all the details, ...he was seen by a few other professionals, and he was also DXed with ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder) with the accent on defiance.
This continued and got worse, while he was starting to get a bit of a handle on the ADHD. Half way thru his Sophomore year, he was caught hiding his meds that we thought he had swallowed, we talked about it, and he said I am not taking meds anymore, so we agreed, and no more therapy sessions--as it was just becoming a money pit and a ongoing battle ( as everything was with him) It was also around this time that he told us, he didn't believe in God. (a few years later, he told us he was Wiccan--worship nature etc)
At the age off 20 he met a girl on the internet that lived in CA. she wanted him to go out there, and stay for about 3-4 weeks, she would pay for his airfare. We agreed, as he was over 18. The mother of this girl, called me, and basically gave me the third degree about Tom...no trouble with the law, no drugs. Has manners a big heart loves animals and is sensitive..then I told her she may have to put her hand on his shoulder from time to time to keep his hyperness in check, and that she may have some issues with rules.
so then I asked her about her daughter, and her family (since he'd be in their home) she told me all was good, no drugs, no issues with the law etc.
She promised me she would have him on a plane back to NJ by Dec. 20th, as we wanted him home for Christmas.
Ok...now for what actually transpired:
#1...the entire family smoked (smokes) pot, heavily, daily
#2...one of the daughters was involved with a gang member (who ended up getting shot)...she has his son, then had his brother's daughter
Thomas was there for 6 months, helping them get their home fixed up and ready for sale so they could move to NC. (Did I ever say how much worked is needed in our home, and that my husband is older than me, with heart disease and diabetes and other stuff, and I am disabled?)
Now Thomas smokes daily...he is still like a teenager and can not keep a job...either calls out too much, or butts heads with someone.
The girl totally supports him.
She says they are in love, he says they are in love, yet they will hook up with other people.
I no longer recognize my son. he is an unemployed pot-smoking swinger.
Did i tell you has has an IQ of 147, and was told if he just did the work asked of him in HS, he could have gotten a free right to any school he chose, even MIT...he always refused to do homework...his argument "homework is supplemental learning, I already know the stuff " (this was the same argument he started in 5th grade) and ya know what, he did know the stuff...any time, any one asked any question, he knew the answer. He never got a test grade below a 96, and often got over 100 (extra credit) but he failed freshman english twice, just for refusing to write essays, when he took it again in the summer , he had the same teacher he had as a freshman, she called me, and told me, that she had every intention of passing him no matter what, but IF he wrote the one big essay expected, she would give him an A. he passed but not with an A. he failed english and social studies in his senior year for basically the same reason...not doing the research papers, so he ended up in the 5 year plan, and in the 5th year, after being frustrated like his parents, the teachers passed him.
OK, so now he'll be 24 on 5/9 and all of the old behavior is still present, and now he is stoned on top of that, and in our eyes immoral. ("open relationship", my butt)
He has been here now for just over a week...he has had his friend here almost all of that time, one afternoon he raked for about an hour outside, one day he started a plumbing job with the hubby (still not finished) all the rest of the time, he has been partying, and playing video games. I am thoroughly disgusted, and stressed, and saddened whish of course is making my depression be in charge of me,(that is my battle)
Am I wrong for feeling this way? to be so very disappointed in my own child, because he has totally wasted the gifts God has given him (intelligence, street smarts, common sense, imagination, good humor, sensitivity, and much more)
Does anyone else have a similar family issue? I feel alone, hubby is disgusted also, but doesn't want to talk about it, he says...we battled with him for 20 years, why still do it. I guess he is right, but I do not know how to shut off "being a mom".

Basic Grey--Color challenge #5--Blue, Gold, & White

DOUBLE DUTY CHALLENGE CARDS
These cards fulfill 2 challenges first and foremost for WINK*WINK*INK which was to use one of their images and a border punch.
The second is for Stars & Stamps ( for OWH) to make a set of cards--HIS & HERS, a "love you, miss you" card for a serviceman to send home to his wife(or girlfriend) and one for a servicewoman to send home to her husband (or boyfriend)
I chose the Love Cats digi stamp from WINK*WINK*INK, that is already colored, and then built the cards around that.

ART post cards for ARTchix studios swap/contest--Discussion and Pics
For anyone familiar with ARTchix studios, you know Helga (owner) runs swaps/contests for the best images to be added to her collage sheet collection. The main winner wins a shopping spree, the rest of us, get copies of the sheets she's made. I have only entered a few of these swaps/ contests. I would enter more if they were JUST SWAPS. There are many superbly talented artists in the group. But I do not think favorably, of the contests. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. The voting I will not discuss, as it might start some rumors or worse arguments. but I will discuss, the art the players make and what happens with it.
The first time, I entered such a contest was a few years back when Helga was looking for mermaids to make a "faux poste" sheet. My husband pointed out, the "unjust-ness" of it...but I pointed out how having my name appear, is publicity as it were, and the hopes of getting more and more recognition kept me entering.
Here is what happens, if something you make is chosen to become part of her collections to sell and make a profit off from now til whenever. You get 3 copies of the sheet she as created with your art and all the other art she chose from the dozens of applicants. Additionally you get a blurb about you on her website for this sheet. I am not sure how long these blurbs stay up there. That is it, she now owns the rights to that piece of art, and she gave you the rough equivalent of $15. Each time she sells she sheets, she makes the rough equivalent of $5. Again, if you are familiar with ARTchix studios, you KNOW she is selling hundreds of these sheets. EVERONE who plays gets 1 sheet. (which is nice). But what about those Artists whose work is chosen? Is $15 a fair price, to sign over their rights to their own piece of work? I'd really like to hear other people's opinions on this. My husband has been saying no, ever since the first one I joined...mermaids faux poste. My children starting chiming in a little later, especially my son--agreeing with their dad. Recently I have had the opportunity to discuss this at length with someone who has actually graduated from art school, they also think there is something not quite right with this.
IN Helga's and ARTchix's DEFENSE, I will say, that the most recent swap/contest sheets she has produced have the artists names ON THE SHEETS, which to me, makes a BIG difference. So adding this new factor into the mix, I'd really like to hear from all you fellow artists out there, on your opinion, of signing over the rights to a piece of your art for you name being on the sheets (so people purchasing them, know where they came from) and the equivalent of $15.
I want to also point out that there are rules to these swap/contests...you must use ARTchix items...and in the beginning it was "one of the following", and you'd have a few choices to choose from. However the last few there have been at least 3 items that you MUST use, so inevitably you must purchase from ARTchix to even ENTER the swap/contest with no guarantee-- obviously that your work will be chosen. So she is making a profit from the artists even before their work has been signed over to her, and then of course if your work is one of the "lucky ones" to be chosen- you sign over your rights, and she continues to make a profit.
I wasn't going to do anymore of these swaps/contests...but the last one which was Gothic arches I really enjoyed, and I'd LOVE to do it again...as just a SWAP.
This post card swap, we had to purchase 3 of the ARTchix collage sheets to be used on the post cards. I wasn't going to do, as I really wasn't in the mood to spend more money for a swap at that moment. But I had never made post cards, and when I looked at the one sheet needed for the swap (make art, create happiness), I liked it...I already owned 1of the three sheets, so I decided to go for it. I am pleased with my results, and I made 2 for me. I also made sure I signed my work on the front...very tiny, but it is there, and I signed the back. I did not put any other info on them, because I have a "Post card" stamp, and I used that, and a blank "stamp" stamp and put that on there, and I drew a line straight down under the words "post card" so that they look identical to real postcards. I might put a post-it note on the back of each with all the other info. I bet, because my signature is on the fronts of these, none of mine will be picked. Just a prediction. I also made 2 sets, this is the first time I have ever joined any of the swap/contests making more than 1 set.
so....Please give your opinions on how you feel about the rights to one's art, as listed above. and I also wouldn't mind opinions of my art post cards. :) LOL
Set one:
With all being said and done...I do want to say that I LOVE ARTchix studios and Helga is awesome, I am merely looking at the 'rights to the artist's work' angle here. They are closing the Yahoo group down, which is most, most sad! They are moving everything to Facebook, I am a member of FB, and like FB, but I PERSONALLY know at least 5 people, who have gotten hacked and or viruses and worms from items on FB or thru FB. Due to this, I do not do much on FB...I play (and actually I haven't played it in months) --Bloodlines, and I play Zoo World(again haven't played in a while). Otherwise I chat occasionally with art friends, old classmates, some family members, and friends of my kids. I limit what photos I put up. I am very leery of putting up art photos. Therefore the closing of the Yahoo group is making many of us, Thinking very carefully if we are continuing our membership and participation, again...very sad. One of the members created a flickr group, so we could do the bi-weekly ATC lotteries, which I have joined.
QUICK ADDITION: YES, she notifies us of how it works, and we have to sign a release.
Ok, waiting to hear from all my art friends. :)

My card for 2sketches4you
I got a chance to make another card and challenge, and of course it will be going to OWH.
so here is the card for 2sketches4u
the dark paper is NAVY with subtle swirls in it, it is hard to see here. and the magenta, is NOT as pinky as this appears. Although I will admit for just a LR lamp at 4 in the am...I goofed with the one last flower on top...it was supposed to be the same blue as the middle lower layer....NOT...I gotta get an OTT lite :) LOL

Stretch N Bubbles sketch challenge
Today I am sharing my first challenge card using a digi stamp...the stamps is from Stretch N Bubbles, as is the Sketch, which is their first sketch challenge. I never thought I'd use digi stamps, and more importantly I never really knew anything about them...but knowing I can draw some...this means I might be able to make some myself and be a designer in the future or possibly own my own little digi stamp business...but I am not going to get ahead of myself yet.
STRETCH N BUBBLES (click) has some cute images, and they give one away free every Wednesday, and I believe sketch challenges are either weekly or monthly...I do not remember right at this moment. :(
I want to ADD that I am in the middle of making a lot of cards for OWH (Operation Write Home), which is why I wrote the sentiment I did.
anyway, several images...the LAST ONE is a scan, the rest are photos. Products used to follow.
Upright, straight on
Upright to the right
Laying down
Scanned.
Products used: All color card stock by Stampin' Up...Plum, Lilac, Eggplant, and Magenta (retired). White card stock by Georgia-Pacific. Printed paper by Provocraft. WRECK THIS JOURNAL to return
Hi there everyone! I have been giving some time to friends to catch up on the journal, and I have been waiting on photos, have only rec'd from Gracie...which I will be uploading.
The weather here is finally in a cooperative state for me to do the leaf and other object pressing and the throwing at the bullseye (which is taking for ever to dry) I have jumped ahead to the "cover this page in circles" page. and I am trying to go back and fill in my journaling, though, I am frustrated that it seems to rely heavily on redundancy, yet ---that is my life, BAD redundancy. We all have a somewhat redundant lives, but mine as I am sure many others with chronic illness or maladies or disabilities are more so than the average bear.
I am tired of even talking or writing about my pain, my isolation, my depression. I am sure everyone else is tired of hearing about it or reading it. SO>>> I am trying to focus on other topics to write about, it is very hard, as this IS my life.
The weather here has been glorious the last few days, today my little "fashionista munchin", donned her bikini and laid outside to get a start on her tan. Tomorrow, it is supposed to be 80 degrees here!
We didn't really do much for Easter, we went and visited with my mom on Saturday, and surprised her with Amanda, as she was supposed to work, but they changed her days. We brought her Orange Tulips and White Hyacinths...I LOVE them they are so beautifully fragrant. We also bought me a pack of Pink ones and Purple ones. We cooked at her apt. a nice chicken and noodles dinner, and brought a strawberry short cake!
YUMMY! Normally when we visit we take Mom out, like maybe we'll cook 1 out of 10 visits, but unfortunately we have to PAY taxes this year, so we have been squirreling the money away for that.
We do not Celebrate the holidays anymore like we used to, since the kids are grown and out, it is really more of a chore than anything else. We also do not believe that Easter is what it is meant to be, Ron is not a church goer (he was for a while which made me very happy, but a string of events in our church turned him totally off... another story for another time) I am a believer, and praise and worship on my own at home in my own way (and I have even gotten a little slack in that) I do not go to church any longer either ( a string of events in the same church) I'd like to find a new church, but I would really like Ron to go with me, and I keep praying for that, and for God to point me in the direction of the right church for me.
on this note but slightly askew, I'd really like to hear YOUR OPINIONS:
recently 2 things happened that really bother me, and I'd like to hear from anyone, of any spiritual belief their opinions on these two things.
#1...a family of Pagans used a Presbyterian church(Christian) to hold their daughter's baby shower. I personally think this was way wrong...to not be a believer but to use his house?
#2... a family of Wiccans (my son's S/O's family...and the S/O and I think my son now also) celebrating Easter as a Holiday. Again to me this is waaay wrong, more wrong than turning Easter into chocolate and eggs.
PLEASE, I'd really like to know what everyone thinks of this.
On a more personal note (and I mean personal) I have been dealing with lovely peri-menopausal symptoms, more than the usual. I had a FULL-ON give-a-head-rush HOT FLASH the other day, whew! I've had hot flashes on and off for a few years now, but this was something else. The night sweats are still an annoyance. but the symptoms that aggravate me the most is the acne, and the night time itching (my mom had this symptom) the doctors say it isn't an "uncommon" symptom, but not as common as the other ones. It is so bad sometimes I scratch until I bleed...no hives or anything, just super itchy. I use that Sarna lotion (12 bucks) but it doesn't fully do the job, I take Benadryl anyway, but when it gets real bad I have to take 2. Tonight is one of those nights...which on one hand is good, cause it will help to make me sleep better, but, I am in an arty mood and on a roll with a swap, so I am not really in the mood to sleep, LOL!
Anyway I hope by the end of the week to be able to share my "painty pages" of WTJ! I will also share the swaps I am working on.
I am going to try and take some pictures this week of the yard, even though there are branches down all over from the snow storms and the more recent nasty rain storms we've had.
The good news: I am not as down as I have been, the weather is great, and I am trying to go outside even if it is for only a few minutes a day.
The bad news: My heating pad died. (I use this a LOT--it doesn't owe me anything, but I am not in a position to buy a new one for a couple of weeks :( )

Daisy's ATC collection...thanks to all that contributed
I am late mailing these and sharing them with all of you, as i was still waiting on 2 other artist's who said they were going to send some. her binder has 5 empty places...I haven't decided if I am going to try and make 5 more or not.
There are 3 others made by a friend an artist overseas, yet they have small loose parts on them, and Daisy is only 3 so I hesitate to use them. There were actually four, but the one was so adorable that I just put extra glue down on the baby jingle bell...you'll see it, it is on a party hat :)...The other 3 well one has a small piece that the string came untied 4 times before I even got it into the binder, so after tying it for the 5 time, and gluing the knot. I decided to keep that one out, but I am still debating really. The last two have huge things hanging off the bottom of the ATC, and I never really got why anyone would hang something off the bottom of an ATC, as then they have to be folded up behind the card to be put in a binder. The one isn't really geared toward Daisy anyway, so I am going to keep it and trade it out for one of my cards, the other one, has loose string on it and buttons (that have come unglued twice already) the loose string is because it is a shrine type card. The front is a pretty field of daisies, and then when you open it, it is the enlarged center of a daisy with a teddy bear hanging in it (looks like...it is glued down) and ric rac...very adorable!... Off the ric rac hangs a big butterfly, so I am thinking, just take the string and the butterfly off...I did not scan these 2 cards or take pictures of them. but I would love opinions.
When I first put out the call for ATCs for My great niece Daisy...(she is on my side bar---she is a little older now) I asked for age appropriate cards (she just turned 3) PINK, as it is her favorite color, Daisies, as it is her name and she loves them, and Mickey Mouse because she loves him so. For the most part that is what I rec'd. other than the ones I am hemming and hawing about, I rec'd one, that was just a collage of all make- up-- lipstick, blushes, etc in shades of pink...I definitely did not use that one.
I want to also state that one generous gal bought her a daisy duck from Disney World and mailed it directly to her, one gal, added a package of mickey stickers, one gal sent stickers and bookmarks, one gal gave me the money to mail the binder, and another gal, decided she was going to do something on her own (I do not know what that is, she never told me).
I APPRECIATE very much the OUTPOURING of LOVE --DAISY rec'd in the way of ART!! Thank you ALL so very much!! Please remember to visit her website often, and follow along with her life, and donate if you can. Shortly, unfortunately she will be hitting the cap on their Health insurance--NOT GOOD! It is bad enough they have to lay out almost $2,500.00 a month in just the ointment an dbandages, as the insurance doesn't cover that.
OK, without further Adieu, the ATCs:
