THE GAME Challenge #4...HOPSCOTCH

Hello everyone, as you know my husband is in the hospital, well actually now he is in the convalescent center for in house PT. He starts today...YEA!!  I was planning on sitting this challenge out, as i am exhausted and due to the amount of driving and walking I am doing everyday, my pain level has been quite high in the knee, and back. However one of our other DT members had to sit this one out, so I didn't want us to be down by 2.

Anyway...

This Week at
we are playing
HOPSCOTCH (with a twist of course)

You are to create something you can hang on the wall or a door, it must be no smaller than 4" X 4".

Write down the 8 items and toss them in a bowl (hat).
Pick  out two from your hat (bowl). You will use those 2 items in that number. You of course, may use other items in your creation, but you MUST use the items you chose.

example:   you got 7 brads and 2 die-cuts, that means you must use 2 die cuts and 7 brads on your creation. Be sure to say what the items were that you chose, in your post.

Here is the Board:

The items I "drew" were: 2 die cuts and 3 textures.
My wall hanging is 5" X 7"

All the papers are digi papers from DEZINAWORLD, DIGI DESIGN RESORT and the third I can not remember (red flower) The stamps are CLOSE TO MY HEART.  I used Black Staz-on ink, because I used glossy paper...but it actually stuck to the paper, and pulled the color up with it as it finally let go...I have NEVER had this happen, I am thinking it is because it is a clear stamp and not rubber. So I had to line up the sentiment 3 times to get it dark enough, and sadly on the 3rd time, it moved.   so it was slightly double exposed, and then there was missing black...so i had to fill in with a sharpie. I am upset over it, but I'm keeping this so it doesn't matter much. (I am thinking of stamping it on blank paper trimming it and covering it up though...but that of course will take away from the background I think.
The same thing happened with the vine border, but I think it looks ok.
Here are my 2 die cuts- Tattered Flowers Tim Holtz die for SIZZIX, I embossed each one with a different embossing folder (2 of my 3 textures)
The 3rd texture is paint that I mixed with crushed lava rock gel medium, I dabbed it on instead of brushing it on to make it lumpy also...so there is 2 textures in 1, HA!
The lovely girl image is from TLC CREATIONS.

PLEASE visit THE GAME
and play
HOPSCOTCH
with us this challenge!

E. A. Poe's Masque of the Red Death

Hello,

I recently watched
"The Masque of the Red Death"
starring Vincent Price,
not exactly what I expected.
I thought it was good, good and creepy, but more weird than creepy!

Anyway, continuing on with my collection Of Poe inspired fat pages (4 x 4) here is
The Masque of The Red Death.

The background is the Ballroom Digi by SASSY STUDIO DESIGN, Death is a Dig from SMEARED INK's "Death Cab" collection, the sentiment, and the masked figure are rubber stamps from SMEARED INK'S "As Death" All are colored with PRISMACOLOR pencils, including metallic gold and silver --windows, chandaliers, hair and fringe of the masked figure. I used starlight stickles by RANGER on the chandaliers, and the word "death" and the masked figure  are raised on pop dots.

we are spotlighting GOTH/EMO style
our lovely sponsor is
Bugaboo Digi Stamps
 The winner will receive
7, yes SEVEN free digis...
there are also some freebies, and a sale going on, so have some fun and look around!

You can create any type of craft or art you like, but it must be Goth/Emo.

Here is my offering
I used the MOON image from Bugaboo's Skelekinz collection.
The Goth/Emo part for me, in addition to the image is the very gothic looking paper from OCTOBER AFTERNOON. Also the colors I used. Teal, Purple, Lime, Black, and of course Red. it was so hard for me to get a picture close to the right colors. The flower is actually a dead-on match to the teal in the girl's bkgrd. The top ribbon is purple. All Card stock and markers are from STAMPIN' UP. Ribbons from my stash and the flower is from PRIMA MARKETING.

I hope you like it, and thanks for visiting.

PLEASE join us this month at

TRUE BLOOD is BACK!

I LOVE the HBO series TRUE BLOOD
and was thrilled to see a challenge commemorating it's return over at
HAUNTED DESIGN HOUSE.

So I made just a little something utilizing what I happened to have on hand, which is a funerary urn stamp. I tried to turn it into a crystal urn to hold "Talbot" bloody remains.

I also wrote a small poem to go with it, spoken in the voice of Russell Edgington.
The middle stanza is paraphrased from William Shakespeare's MacBeth....I did give that credit on the bottom.

So this is a 4 X 4 (or fat page or chunky page) with a pocket.

Card stock, ink and word window punch by STAMPIN' UP, Embossing folder by CUDDLEBUG, Funerary urn stamp by STAMPFRANCISCO, Corner stamp by BOMBSHELL stamps. Red EP by SPARKLE and SPRINKLE. Holographic EP by STAMPENDOUS. Thin Black pen by FABER- CASTELL. German Scrap by ARTCHIX STUDIOS. Poem by ME!

The Poem says:

True Death

My TRUE love, Talbot
Entombed in Crystal
Silent sobs catch in
my dry breath.

*Our yesterdays have lit
the way to dusty death.
Signifying nothing.
Sayeth MacBeth.*

I will mourn you
with a vengence
until the day of m
my own TRUE death.
S. Guzy ©6/2012
*paraphrased from MacBeth; V,v

SKULL APPRECIATION DAY 2012--hop with us :)

Photobucket

Howdy Skull and/or Art Fans!!

I have always been keen on skulls and skeletons,
drawing them with charcoals in art class way back in 1978 (first semester of college) was my favorite and best-by-far-project from that class.
This is my second year celebrating the "Holiday" along with the great ning art community SMEARED and SMUDGED through a blog hop!

Please check out this edgy and different art community, and hop along to view some great skully art!

You should have arrived here from Fabulous Alison's blog
when you leave here go on to Smudgy Andrea's blog

The entire Blog list is to your left, take your time, and be sure to comment as there are surprise prizes along the way,
and prizes on some of the stops along the way as well as the SnS blog
You have until Wednesday to visit us all and comment!

Now onto my project

I made a sign for my SAMHAIN Alter or just to hang in the room, or maybe even on my front door for the SAMHAIN holiday,  I haven't decided yet. :)
I knew from day one, that this would be my project. the only thing I didn't know was what skull images to use. I have several. Then just last week SMEARED INK provided any of us who participated in the monthly challenges (any of them) on the SnS group would get this FABULOUS skull and roses image for FREE!

I took several photos, and the colors look a little different on all :(  but I have 3 here for your viewing pleasure (or displeasure, LOL) Hubby helped a bit, LOL!
I used a piece of Luan (thin smooth plywood) which I sanded all the edges of. Then I covered it with a layer of LIQUITEX BASICS white gesso. when dry I added a 2nd coat, when the front was just a bit tacky, I dry brushed on black paint, it mixed and blended with the gesso and gave it an aged gray look to the wood.
In the meantime I had printed out 2 exact images  of the wonderful SKULL With ROSES Digi Stamp from SMEARED INK, and computer generated my Welcome Ancestors sentiment using the Transylvania font.
All are colored with PRISMACOLOR pencils and blending pencil. I cut them all out leaving the tiniest edge all around, about 1/8". I coated the backs of all with ELMERS glue with a brush. I smoothed them all down and left them to dry.
When dry I added some of the thick gesso to the small amount of thinned gesso I had in a cup,  I added the rest of the black paint to the mix. I used a palette knife to mix it, and then just blob it on all around the images and words, so it is kind of lumpy and textured. In  the center and around the edges you can still see some of the original background.
Once that was all dry I asked the hubs to drill me a small hole on each of the top corners and bring me a length of wire. I attached the wire to the right side and then  added 5 loops before attaching it to the other end and cutting off the excess. I said the center was left with the original background, it is a bit hard to see now, as I added a rose and a smaller bud, leaves and white sprigs that I wired together and then glued using BEACON'S 3-in-1 glue. Once that was dry I added another larger rose and leaves to the left side of the sign, through the wire loop, and glued to the back.
I tied 5 strips of red fabric that I used pinking shears all around on to each of the loops.
Then I took out my Tim Holtz for RANGER distress inks and used 3 different colors on the roses and the fabric strips to age them a bit...I used the ink pads directly on the roses and fabric, using a "smooshing, rubbing, and brushing" technique.
The colors I used are:  Antique Linen, Frayed Burlap and Tea Dye. I let the entire sign sit for a bit, and while it was sitting, I cut a piece of cheesecloth, and kept "smooshing" it into the Black Soot distress ink pad. (my fingers were black also, LOL) I let that sit for about 20 minutes or so, and then folded it in half and tied it into a bow. I added some of the glue, and attached it under the center rose grouping.
I have been debating about using a bit of stickles on the roses that are part of the digi images. I am leaning towards NO, as I am going for the aged look. What do you think???

Thank you for visiting, and I appreciate your comments :)

Robyn's Fetish Challenge #110... no square or rectangle cards

Happy Sunday everyone!  I am feeling better and hope to have additional posts later today, explaining some stuff.
I hope you are all enjoying your weekend! :)

This week at
we are making NO Square or Rectangle cards!
our lovely sponsor is
The winner will receive
a $20GC to The Paper Shelter store!

here is my creation using
CUTE BAVARIAN

We had to make a shape OTHER than square or rectangle for our cards. I knew immediately I wanted to make a beer mug for this little gal!
I searched all over the internet for a mug template the only one I could find was like a tea or coffee mug. so then I looked for clip art. this was a GREEN BEER clip art for St. Patty's day. I printed it to a size I liked, covered the back with pencil, then cut out the mug. tracing the outside cut lines onto a folded (at the top) card stock piece...(I think I'll go with a side fold if I do this again)
Then I used a pencil to lightly go over the lines of colors and shading on the green beer mug, which of course came through onto the card stock by way of the penciling on the back.
I colored the mug card with PRISMACOLOR pencils and blending pencil, and then colored the CUTE BAVARIAN by THE PAPER SHELTER the same way. I cut her out mounted her on a slightly darker piece of card stock then attached her to the card on pop dots. The sentiment is computer generated and is flat.

Not to be patting my own back, but the picture TRULY does not give the mug justice.

Thanks for visiting :)

Please join us this week at
with your NON-square or Non-rectangle cards!
