Thank you so much for visiting and commenting on my brand new blog! It means a lot to me.
I hope some of you will consider my plea for Pink, Daisies and Mickey mouse ATCs formy great-niece. read about it 2 posts above, and read about Daisy on my side bar. I got 0 comments on that post, but 173 on my giveaway post.
Everyone I have been meeting have been so nice, and all the blogs that I have visited are all being so generous, that I decided I am NOT going to wait til next year to jump on the band wagon! Yet I have to give some thought to what I am giving away, so please bare with me for not longer than 24 hours, and I will have more info here! You have all inspired me! : D
OK,I want to start by reminding everyone that Lisa Swifka (whimsicalBohemian) created this event in 2007. The original idea behind this giveaway event was to bring bloggers together from around the world who may never ordinarily meet. It closes the gap of the blog community and enables us to interact, discover new and wonderful people, and in the process possibly win a prize or many prizes along the way. 2007 had roughly 85-90 participants and many connections were made because of it......friendships that are still going strong.
We had a strong showing the first year for sure, and then in 2008 we had just about tripled that number. In 2009 there were 911 participants, to say I was amazed is an understatement. 28 countries were represented in the 2009 event as well.
This is more than wanting to win something.......that is only the means.......in the end it's about finding kindred spirits. Someone who may be fairly new to blogging, not sure how to navigate, find others and have others find them....Some are long time bloggers and in some cases well known in the blogging community. Whatever the case it brings all of them together. This is an INTERNATIONAL event that has and had participants from the US, Canada, France, Sweden, Germany, Finland, Malaysia, Brazil, The Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Ireland, England,Wales, Slovenia and more. It transcends geographical location, socio economics, political affiliation, religious beliefs......it's a coming together like the giant community we are on this planet. If only it took a simple giveaway to create PEACE everywhere, in the mean time here we give from our hearts.
I have thought much about what to offer. We are all traveling all over the world.
the theme this year is a "magic carpet ride", but that is a fantasy after all (not that I wouldn't enjoy it..) But think about the ways, people in different countries and regions had limited resources on communicating with each other: first there was smoke signals
Then there was Morse code
then we had the riders of the Pony express...
which led of course to the modern day mail service, The US has the best mail service in the world, and to think we can send a greeting to anyone in our own country for under 50 cents and to many countries for under 1 dollar. I am proud to be a former Rural Letter Carrier for the USPS and my husband Ron still is a Postal worker 38 years and counting (that is how we met). Of course the telephone, came about in here, and then the MAGICAL CARPET known as the INTERNET!!
Something nice, pictures to follow in a little while...keeping you in suspense is even more fun I think...
EDIT TO SAY: My giveaway is 40 "stamped" (rubber that is) envelopes in sizes A2 and A6, some will be colored in, some may be embossed. Some may be vintage, some may be cute, some might be quotes. These are all QUALITY envelopes, some are made with handmade paper, some have mica flakes in them etc.
