V is for Vulnerable

After haVing a house fire on 6/6, we were without power until late afternoon yesterday. The VERY nutty bldg. Inspector had a different story eVery day, basically making hubby jump through hoops.   He lied to us, many times, contradicted himself, and stalled oVer and oVer again.

We liVe on 5 acres out in  woods 7 miles west of the nearest state road and town.  EVeryone has well water and septic systems out here. No power = no running water or flushing toilets.  It was like camping in our house. Our VERY nice neighbors to the right of us ran a power line into the house, allowed us to shower there, and get buckets of water to flush our toilets. They eVen took the majority of our frozen foods (meat etc) oVer to their freezer.

We were completely at the whim of this crazy inspector, there was no reasoning with him, I tried and eVeryone in the family tried to tell him, I'm an asthmatic and need the A/C. We reminded him oVer and oVer that no power meant no water etc. He said you should not eVen be liVing in the house since there is no power. I said we didn't turn the power off, he said neither did I. "No Moron, you are just keeping it from being turned back on!"

I do not think I haVe eVer felt this VULNERABLE in my life.  This made for a VERY emotional week for all of us, lots of bickering brought on by the VAST amount of frustration this "window licker" made us feel.

I have been camping, real camping...I haVe gone without flush toilets and running water, or at least Hot running water... but to do so in your own home makes you VALUE the wonder that is, a flush toilet and a water heater.  Ron and Tom were constantly fantasizing about this VILLAGE IDIOT'S demise. Tom had a couple of VERY bizarre dreams oVer this VERITABLE VICIOUS inspector that had to VALIDATE our VINDICATION. I would much rather find a way to make him VICARIOUSLY liVe the LiVes we just had to endure oVer the past 9 days.

However, my 2 VALIANT men declared VICTORY this afternoon, saying "Let there be light!" and pushing up the kitchen light switch. As we were able to VANQUISH the darkness, I thought about the 3 sister witches on "Charmed" and just for a moment was enVious of their ability to VANQUISH the eVil and VILE demon of permits.

Can't imagine coming back from a house fire. Good luck on that. And the government tends to complicate most things, doesn't it?

I'm glad that you finally got your electric back on. I don't mean to laugh but your pictures made me really LOL. You picked the best pictures to tell your story. I would complain to somebody about that inspector. Great V post ;-)

I'm glad you got the power turned back on!! Your situation makes me wonder if it had been the inspector's house, would he have gone without power for this long??

I'm glad you finally got your power back on! The whole experience just sounds awful. Your family was in a state of emergency, and that inspector was really heartless.

Hi Susan,

Thank you for linking to Alphabe-Thursday's letter "V"!

What a terrible situation.

I really admire your determination to get things "back to normal"!

How horrible that you had to go through that very vicious time! (sorry, V has been hard for commenting this week!)

I'm sending a little hug and a prayer your way that things go smoothly from here on out!

I'm also sending you an A+ for sharing this link with us!

A+

Glad you were able to vanquish the darkness :-)

P.S. My Rooster is a decorative oil/vinegar bottle, it came from Target several years ago.
