another page to my mini dark journal

I haven't worked on this in ages...I had started the bkgd. and knew what I wanted to do with it, but hadn't acted on it. Today I finally did.  Those of you who have been around a while might remember I am doing 2 of these in this size, one to reflect me in my dark times and one for my happy times.
The pages are all 4 x 6, and most have something that hangs over the edge(side edge)  not all pages but most.

paper by MY MINDS EYE, Poe Collage image from RETRO ART CAFE, German scrap by COLLAGE STUFF, Tombstone stamp by STAMPFRANCISCO, Poe quote (Premature burial) from a google search.
There is a paper pebble over the skull on the Tombstone, and Crackle effects by RANGER on the Poe image.

Just some new art!

I haven't been creating too much lately...but here are a couple of items.

This one is crimson, black, white and navy, the back ground is stamped (STAMPIN' UP) the sentiment is computer generated, the punch is SU, I hand drew a line inside (cat headbutted my arm at one point) The adorable pin up is from a now defunct collage sheet company. the flower is from a stem of silk flowers (black) with a crystal brad (MAKING MEMORIES) and the pearl brads are from AMERICAN CRAFTS.

This is my card for Poisoned Peas Please Challenge last week
(I am part of the DT...I never got to post it to my own blog)
The challenge was "Fool's game" and we were all using a "Carnie" from SMEARED INK... both my "Tightrope walker" and the "Hurry, hurry, hurry" are from the "Carnie" set
I used the Mosaic Embossing folder from CUTTLEBUG, negative side up and trimmed it to match her "frayed-look" All Card stock is also from STAMPIN' UP
My sentiment is computer generated, button from BUTTONS GALORE, and  colored Hemp is from WALMART.
I drew in my own "tight rope" and the image is colored with PRISMACOLOR pencils and blender pencil.

EGG-static over at Smudgy Antics

This week's challenge at
SMUDGY ANTICS
is to creative with eggs or to create an egg!

well, my plastic eggs are packed away in the attic. I do not have any more real eggs in the house...so I had to create using some paper eggs.

I made a DOOR HANGER. (a bit cheeky)

Egg templates...ABOUT.COM, Door Hanger...STAMPIN' UP (retired)...(I attached it to white card stock to make it sturdier)
Digi Image is by SMEARED INK. sentiment is computer generated. Markers used are by STAMPIN' UP.

GOOD NEWS & another E A POE Fat Page

Hello, Happy Hump day!

My Mom is going home today from the hospital! YEA!!
It is supposed to get warm here again for the next few days! YEA!
I clipped the grand dog, yesterday (mostly...I have work to do on his feet (he hates that)! YEA!!
I am cooking pork chops tonight! YEA!!
and the really big news....
My oldest daughter came over last night and stayed talking to me all night(I wasn't so happy about not getting any sleep) It was awesome that we spent some time talking, another chance at mending our relationship! YEA!!!!

now for a bit of mixed media/abstract-ish art:
My next fat page in a Edgar Allen Poe Series...this one- "The Black Cat",
I call this piece "Warped"

This first picture allows you to see some of the shine

 Ingredients:
chipboard 4 x 4
background paper  by BASIC GREY (oxford)
Fibers from stash
Digi stamp: Cat cleaning it's face (paw is over the eye so appropriate! LOL) by TLC CREATIONS
Rubber stamps: Hour Glass by ALTERED BOOKS, Gothic Corner by BOMBSHELL STAMPS, Head (from the full bust of E A Poe) by SMEARED INK, the word "Warped" by a recently defunct company in the UK (I can't think of their name right now)
Ink by STAMPIN' UP, ENCORE, and VERSAMARK
Embossing powders by STAMPIN' UP, STAMPEDOUS, and SUZE WEINBURG
How I did it:
stamped cat on white card stock, drew in the ripped out eyeball and blood, cut around the top of the cat and trimmed the sides of the card stock a bit. attached it to the 4 X 4, inked the head only of Poe, and stamped it on, inked warped and stamped it on, inked the hour glass and stamped it on, Inked the gothic corner with metallic pigment ink, and embossed with Copper EP-(upper left, lower right)
Then i tapped versamark ink all over the entire 4 X 4, I had a mixture of Clear utee with some silver, red and black reg. EP mixed together, i dumped all of it on (it wasn't a lot) shook it around and then pressed down all over with my fingers to make sure it all stuck good. shook and tapped off lightly the excess.
heat melted it with my heat gun. it is very lumpy and shiny! (the next picture shows this)
After it cooled I took a black and red sharpie, and just redefined some of the lines here and there for more distinction.
The picture below is the best VIEW, but the colors are more accurate in the last picture and the first 2 pictures.

just a quick piece of art

Something small I have worked on in between Mom and other stuff.
This is for the challenge this week over at SMUDGY ANTICS.

The theme is RED HOT!

I made a 4 X 4 (fat page/chunky page)

The flame image is from the internet. The Devilish Heart digi is from SMEARED INK. The Red foil Gothic point German Scrap is from COLLAGE STUFF. The 3D plastic black flourishes with rhinestone are Jolees for EK SUCCESS, the Red Ribbon Roses are from "Dollarama" and rec'd as a RAK. The letter stamps are TECHNIQUE TUESDAY. I colored the Devilish Heart with PRISMACOLOR pencils, and I used Red Stickles by RANGER on the words "Love, Red and Hot". It says "Love should be RED HOT always"
(NOW, I can really see hot bad  the lighting is in my Living room, as the photos clearly show places I missed withe pencils, LOL...Please let me get a "steady work area" so I can actually USE my Ott Lite! LOL)

Recycled Salsa Jar

Hello, Here is my entry for
challenge
this week, which is
RECYCLE SOMETHING!

Gotta love Salsa jars! they have a wide opening and when upcycled or recycled they make for good gifts when filled with candy, or embellishments etc.
I used images from the BOT-BOTS digital image set by SMEARED INK
I chose this because I am going to put a chunk of foam or cork in the bottom of the jar and use it for Fancy pins. Hat pins etc.
Printed paper is from PROVOCRAFT by Designer Kim Anderson. It is from a pad...old but still cool sheets, this one is actually my least favorite of the set but it is still cool!
I used cotton single edge fold bias tape for around the paper on the jar itself. I used ribbon in a similar color on the jar lid, i chose to use the ribbon over the bias tape as it has texture, and since you need to unscrew the lid, I thought strategically speaking the ribbed ribbon was a better choice.
The image was colored with PRISMACOLOR pencils. and I have the same paper on the lid, and then the whole thing is embellished with Stickles from RANGER.

What I have been up to for the last 2 weeks of 2011

Well first I never shared the night time images of my(yule) Alter, so I'll start with those, sadly all the darkest, prettiest ones are very blurry :(  so just a few:

This last picture I added as you can see the smoke from my incense, so I have the 2 kings, The God and Goddess and the 4 elements represented. For those not in the know;  incense = air, red candle burning = fire, in the 2 abalone shells at the front of the table I have water = obviously water and sea salt = earth. I also have a small offering of mulled wine, and pound cake.

Then a Piece of 3D Christmas Art made with Nature!

The Digital image of the owl "Hershal" is from SMEARED INK, and I layered him several times, I used coffee stirrer sticks, one for him to stay on the birch chunk, and one for his sign. I used a piece of birch bark (dried and flattened) for the sign. a small piece of plastic holly and berries from an old candle ring. All that is left is to seal the whole thing. I like how it came out. :)

Then I had a HELL OF A GOOD TIME at the December Open House at THE CRAFTERS CAFE ning forum! They had games and challenges, and I entered 1 item in all but one challenge, and that was only because I lost all day Saturday due to pain.

Then I made TOP 3 at SMUDGY ANTICS with one of my "wicked Christmas" entries...I have to find out which one, LOL :)...it was my "Skelly Christmas" creation

AND...If that wasn't all, I won 2 of the games at TCC December Open House!
The grand prize is still open, and one last game, and the winner will be picked tomorrow. {I wasn't the winner, but I feel lucky and blessed to win the 2 that I won :)}

My daughter got a new kitten (a rescue from the PA ASPCA) named Napoleon. Here is his adorable self :
Amanda says he holds his own against Mag-a-roo (Maggie) who is showing him who is boss. He is also very playful!

I wore my UGGS that Amanda bought for me for the first time...so warm and comfy!
here's the style and color:
Over the next few days I'll be sharing the cards I made during the TCC Open House, plus some other stuff I've been making. I hope to be creating  daily, over the next few months, but of course with my injuries and ailments it is always one day at a time. But that is my goal, even if it is just one thing, I want to be creative every day!

I hope you all are doing something everyday, that makes you happy!
XO
Susan

Wicked Christmas part 1

Smudgy Antics (the challenge blog for Smeared and Smudged) last challenge of the year is Wicked Christmas...it is a combo of Wicked Santa and Gothic Christmas and it is for 2 weeks.

Here is my first Entry:

"Skelly Christmas"

This is an 8.5" X 11" Bordered poem/lyrics
written by me to the tune of "White Christmas"

Images used:
Digital stamps: Watchful Eye and Smittie Grumpie, both by SMEARED INK, String of Lights by TLC CREATIONS
Images from the internet: Bloody knife, bloody cut off arm and foot. (I enhanced the bloody part with marker)
Digi images colored with BIC Mark Its!.
"Dream bubble" made with the Bic Red Mark It.

I crumpled the card stock over and over again, then used TH's Tea Dye Distress ink by RANGER all over the paper, lighter over the lyrics than the rest. When dry, I used Crackle Accents by RANGER, over "Smittie" and White Enamel Accents also by RANGER, on the Skull's Santa Hats.

Because youe can not read the lyrics here as shown (small) here they are below:

Skelly Christmas
Im dreaming of a Skelly Christmas
Just like if we were all dead
Where the skull tops glisten,
And the alive still listen
For zombies hiding their bed.

Im dreaming of a Skelly Christmas
With every Christmas elf I bite,
“May your days be scary and dark,”
And all your elves be buried in the park.”

Im dreaming of a Skelly Christmas
Just like the ripper named Jack.
Where the knife-tip glistens,
And monsters listen
For people hiding, they can hack.

Im dreaming of a Skelly Christmas
With every fake Santa that I kill,
“May your screams be loud and shrill,
And may you have many coffins to fill”.
~ S. Guzy ©12/2011

will see if this fits anywhere else for a challenge, LOL

Be inspired by a book, poem or film...film it is

Over at SMUDGY ANTICS this week, the challenge was to be inspired by a book, poem or film.
I went with a film...WILLARD!!

Crispin Glover was definitely creepy in this film:

and my take!
Card stock by STAMPIN' UP, Background picture from the internet from the movie "Willard"
all digi images by SMEARED INK ("shocker" from the Bot-Bots set, "Curious Rat" from the science set, and "Calypso" the rat) I printed Curious Rat twice, the bottom one I cut in a square with deckle scissors and left uncolored, then I colored in the other one, and fussy cut it, and used Foam tape.
I fussy cut Calypso and mounted on foam tape, and Shocker, was cut with deckle scissors, and mounted on foam tape. I used Crystal Effects from STAMPIN' UP on the beaker and Liquid pearls by RANGER, in a basically matching color, outlining everything. This is approx. a 5" X 7" card. The coloring was done with PRISMACOLOR pencils.
